Progress is coming along slowly but surely. This past week much of my writing went towards the chapter entitled The Pope In Yellow (wink wink). As you can see by the drawing below, this pope has a distinctive Lovecraftian influence. I’m no artist, but I enjoy doodling now and then.
I don’t want to give the impression that the entire book is about Cthulhu or Yog-Sothoth wreaking havoc from beneath and above, respectively. None of the beloved Eldritch abominations from the Cthulhu Mythos feature here. The cosmic entity is an original newcomer to the pantheon.
That aside, the Pope In Yellow chapter pays homage to Robert Chambers’s The King In Yellow. It is also partly inspired by a fascinating Catholic sedevacantist conspiracy theory, which I’ll elaborate on some other time (don’t want to risk spoilers, after all!). Suffice it to say, ‘sedevacantism’ is the belief that the See of Peter is currently occupied by a false pope.
This chapter opens Part II of the WIP, and sets the stage for the events that will take place throughout the rest of the book.
You’ll just have to read it to find out how and what and why!
